Pricing and Conclusions

Pricing

Here we will discuss the pricing for the SilverStone Zeus ST75ZF 750W power supply, along with the average cost per watt. The typical street price as of November 2006 is $209. Since October 2006 the new v2.0 version should be available from most online retailers. Some of them still have v1.0 product images posted but I’d recommend to double check with the retailer to see if they do have a new v2.0 version.

Cost per watt. As you can see the average cost per watt is $0.24, which is not bad at all!

Conclusions

I would like to say that this is a very powerful and stable PSU. With 750W continuous output at 50°C and 950W continuous output at 25°C with OCP (over current production) removed and native support for quad-SLI, it becomes the #1 choice (unless you want to go more than 750W) for NVIDIA’s 8800GTX SLI since SilverStone ST75ZF is the lowest rated PSU to be certified by NVIDIA for 8800GTX SLI at 750W: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html#certified_powersupplies

With NVIDIA’s latest 8800GTX series and upcoming ATI R600 it is fair to say that 750W is no longer an overkill, it is a reality for the modern SLI or Crossfire system.
I have noticed that all of the +12v rails were just below 12v, but still well within an acceptable range. No fluctuations were recorded on EPS 12V, Main ATX (+12v and +3.3V), which is very good. A tiny fluctuation was noted on the PCI-e 2 and PCI-e 3 and on +5v rails but its normal under load conditions and does not affect the performance or power output.

Strengths:
  -   Solid, stable voltages
  -   Excellent build quality with industrial grade components
  -   Quad +12V maximum continuous load up to 60A
  -   Quiet, even while operating under moderately heavy loads
  -   NVIDIA SLI Ready
  -   Above average efficiency along with Active PFC   -   3 years warranty

Weaknesses:
  -   Longer chassis (180mm) may not fit inside some PC enclosures
  -   +12V2 might be overloaded while utilizing a second CPU, all SATA and PCI-Express 3
  -   Peripheral cables not modular

For outstanding quality and performance, the SilverStone Zeus ST75ZF 750W v2.0 power supply is awarded the eXtreme Outer Vision seal of approval.
