The Test

Physical Weight

One of the basic measures of any ATX power supply is the unit's physical weight. This may seem rather simplistic but it generally holds that more components and larger heatsinks equal a better PSU.

Idle and Load tests

The following is the list of components of the test bed:

Idle voltages were measured after the system was running for 30 minutes.

Load testing occurred by running loops of the SM graphics test from 3DMark06 at 1600x1200 resolution with enabled 8x AA and 16x AF and Orthos (2 cores) at the same time. All voltage rails were measured using a digital multimeter. With the SilverStone Zeus ST75ZF sporting four +12V rails, we monitored the +12V1 and +12V2 by tapping into the 8-pin EPS12V connector, +12V3 using the 4-pin molex connector, and +12V4 using the 6-pin PCI Express interface.

The above readings of +12V were taken from PCI-Express (+12V4) and Main ATX (+12V3).

Here you can see the readings of +3.3v on Main ATX and +12v on EPS 8-pin.
